The Abadá Capoeira DC community is mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Jared “Baiacu” Snow, a cherished member whose presence, dedication and contributions helped shape the organization over nearly 19 years.Jared was more than a member of the capoeira community. As one of the original board members, he stood alongside the organization from its earliest days, helping lay the foundation for a community built on friendship, discipline, cultural expression and a shared love for capoeira.
His passing has left a profound void among those who knew him and shared in the journey of building Abadá Capoeira DC. For nearly two decades, he was part of the organization’s history, witnessing its growth and helping nurture the relationships that made it more than simply a place to practice a martial art.
In a heartfelt tribute, the community reflected on the difficulty of finding words to describe a loss so sudden and painful. Jared’s journey with the organization may have ended unexpectedly, but his place in its story remains permanent.
Abadá Capoeira DC has always represented more than the movements, music and traditions of capoeira. It has served as a family where individuals come together, form lasting friendships, learn from one another and grow through a shared cultural experience. Jared was an important part of that family, and his contribution helped strengthen the bonds that continue to unite its members.
Although his community can no longer share the roda with him, the circle where capoeira practitioners gather to play, sing and express their art, the influence of those who helped establish the organization will continue through future generations.
