The Fayetteville and Raeford, North Carolina, communities are mourning the heartbreaking death of Wyatt David Duchon, a talented swimmer, dedicated youth coach, and beloved young man who passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at the age of 20. His death has left family members, friends, teammates, and the many young athletes he mentored devastated.
Born on May 21, 2006, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Wyatt was the cherished son of Mathew and Jessica Duchon and the beloved twin brother of Riley Duchon.
Known for his infectious smile, unforgettable laugh, energetic personality, and generous heart, Wyatt had a remarkable ability to make everyone around him feel welcomed and valued.
He attended Fayetteville Academy after his family relocated to Raeford, graduating in 2024. He subsequently studied at East Carolina University for one year.
Athletics played a significant role in Wyatt’s life, particularly swimming, cross-country running, track, and triathlons.
During his senior year at Fayetteville Academy, he earned Co-Male Swimmer of the Year honors and placed second in All-Conference cross-country competition.
His passion for swimming eventually inspired him to become a coach.
After competing with the Fort Bragg Fighting Fish during high school, Wyatt obtained his lifeguard certification and worked his way into the position of Head Coach.
He devoted himself to mentoring swimmers between the ages of five and eighteen, encouraging them to develop confidence, discipline, and a genuine love for the sport.
One touching tribute came from the parent of a young swimmer named Kennedy, who recalled how Wyatt consistently brought a smile to her daughter’s face during their Tuesday and Thursday training sessions.
The parent credited Wyatt with transforming Kennedy into an exceptional swimmer over a year and a half, expressing heartbreak at losing such an influential coach.
Beyond swimming, Wyatt enjoyed sand volleyball, basketball, music, dancing, tattoos, and spending time with loved ones.
He shared a particularly special relationship with his twin sister, Riley, whose memories of their laughter and shared experiences will remain precious.
Wyatt is survived by his parents, Mathew and Jessica; his twin sister, Riley; his grandparents, extended family, and numerous friends.
Although his death has been associated with car accident reports, his official obituary does not establish a cause of death, and the circumstances have not been independently confirmed.
Visitation is scheduled for November 8, 2026, at Rogers & Breece Funeral Home in Fayetteville, with a funeral Mass on November 9 at Saint Patrick Catholic Church.
Our deepest condolences go out to the Duchon family, Wyatt’s friends, fellow athletes, and everyone whose life he touched through coaching.
Rest peacefully, Wyatt Duchon. Your laughter, kindness, and passion for helping others will never be forgotten.
